Supporting our Local Minority-Owned and Women-Owned Businesses

TO OUR CLIENTS, IT’S A GOAL. TO ARMAND, IT’S PERSONAL.

Barbara Armand Kushner has scaled peaks and valleys over 30 years as a woman and a minority in the construction business, building a track record of delivering superior technical capability at competitive prices.

Armand Corporation “walks the walk,” and M/WBE is deeply ingrained our corporate culture.

Armand strives to meet the spirit, as well as the letter, of Section 3 hiring and M/WBE contracting goals. We are here to help our contracted firms meet their obligations, understanding our responsibility to ensure compliance but also to increase the capacity of each Section 3 hire and M/WBE subcontractor through meaningful experience that supports growth and expansion.

When all these goals are met, our clients have successful, compliant contracts. And together we have made real contributions to the capacity-building and success of minorities and women seeking to level the economic playing field in the construction industry.

Our Expertise & Team

As a fiercely proud woman-owned, African American-owned construction management firm operating within New York City for more than 30 Years, Armand understands the very real circumstantial challenges emerging business enterprises face in commercial construction. A key figure in construction contracts completed for many municipal, county, state, and federal government agencies, Armand has mentored many emerging businesses in both construction and design and beyond.

Supporting emerging businesses can take many forms, from a one-on-one relationship to group business training in a classroom setting with testing and certificates. Meeting businesses where they are requires a multi-stage commitment that begins with the basics and levels up as the business participant is ready.

“Shortly after establishing Dirty Gloves as a Section 3 Business concern, Armand Corporation invited me to provide office cleaning services at their job site office on a NYCHA project. In the seven years since, Shamsell and the Armand team have helped me with consider complex issues like bonding, staffing, and insurance through both hands-on technical support and personal, advisory guidance. I can’t thank them enough.”

Supporting Our Future

ARMAND CORPORATION AWARDS ROWAN ENGINEERING GRANT TO DEVELOP STORM RESILIENCY STRATEGIES.

Armand Corporation’s collaboration with Rowan University in southern New Jersey continues with a recent award of $152,000 to the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering to improve the resilience and reliability of local and regional infrastructure systems and communities in coastal zones.

“Armand Corporation’s experience providing disaster recovery program management and construction management dovetails so nicely with the efforts of Rowan’s engineering curriculum,” said company president and CEO Barbara (Armand) Kushner. “Together we can leverage our strengths to first minimize and manage risk and then to provide resiliency and reconstruction.”

Through the Armand Corporation grant, Rowan Engineering established a resiliency team that incorporates the use of Rowan’s signature undergraduate engineering clinic program, expert faculty and the resources of the College’s Coastal Resiliency Lab. The team will collect data to develop high-resolution virtual reality maps that simulate storm damage scenarios. These scenarios subsequently can be analyzed to develop proactive resiliency plans that are unique to individual communities.
