The Julia de Burgos Latino Cultural Center was built in 1879 as a public school. The building is an approximately 60,000 square foot, five-story landmark building located in East Harlem between 105th and 106th Streets. The project is being undertaken to transform the theater/performance into a unified, accessible, and lively destination for artistic, cultural, educational and civic space that seeks to promote and enhance the quality of life for New Yorkers through exhibits, performances, film screenings, special events, community engagements, and educational programs. The renovation will result in providing a quality theater/performance space for patrons and performers by improving accessibility, comfort, and functional needs.
